I hope you had a great week! I was busy taking pictures for VBS at my church this week, so there weren’t as many sweepstakes as I would have liked to share – but the ones I shared have some fabulous prizes! This week should be less busy (I hope – you never know what life holds, but I’m ready for a little down time and some sweeps to enter). Thank you for maintaining this blog, it’s great to have one place to find sweepstakes. I have a question that maybe you can address on your blog. I don’t enter sweeps that require name, address, and DOB if they are http. (a recent example is greatamericancountry.com) I’ve always heard that you shouldn’t enter personal data unless the site is https with the lock. (example- roadtrip.mars.com) If personal data is stolen from shopping site, bank site, etc. there would be a notification process, but I’m not sure a sweepstakes site would do anything especially since they’re temporary. What are your thoughts on this?

Great question, Debbi! I have been entering sweeps since 2008 and have never encountered a problem. You have to decide for yourself what you are comfortable with. If it is a big concern for you, then you should only enter the ones that are https or don’t ask for a birth date (although most sweeps ask for that to verify that you are eligible to participate) and I don’t see why you couldn’t look for the contact info. and shoot out a message to the company asking them to use https. The more people that ask, the more likely they will be to consider making that change. Hope that helps, it really is a personal decision, based on how secure you feel (or don’t feel) entering your information.
